Carol Leppert Fund for Steele Street & Winger Public School

Carol Leppert devoted her life to teaching in Wainfleet and Port Colborne. Her love of music and commitment to musical education inspired many, some of whom went on to follow in her footsteps and become music teachers. Her students fondly remember that she never started a music class without her infamous pitch pipe.
Through her gift in her will, Carol’s memory lives on. Two endowment funds in her name are held in perpetuity. The funds’ annual earnings allow every student at Winger Public School in Wainfleet and Steel Street Public School in Port Colborne to experience live music and theatre performances. Any remaining funds are used to maintain or replace musical instruments at the two schools.
Through our Planned Giving Program in support of DSBN schools and students, our Foundation works in partnership with the Niagara Community Foundation. Our two Carol Leppert funds are part of the family of funds held in perpetuity by the Niagara Community Foundation. “I always feel a loss for words when trying to describe how deeply Carol Leppert endowment has impacted the lives of the children in the Winger community. Her belief in the importance of the arts, and the example she set as a teacher here resonate to this day in the halls and classrooms of our school, and you can see and feel its impact on faces of the children and teachers to this day.
The endowment left in her name gives us the financial support we need to give students the chance to experience, create, appreciate and share music and the Arts together, on a scale that just would not be possible otherwise.
I believe with all my heart that Mrs. Leppert and her family would be so proud to see the legacy that she has created, and how deeply she continues to impact the lives of the students at Winger School.” – Principal Mike Burns, Winger Public School
“Someone once said that whatever we possess becomes of double value when we share it with others. Looking around at the faces of the students and staff here at Steele Street School, we see the difference the Carol Leppert Bursary has made to our school community.
Since 2012, the Carol Leppert Bursary has supported the music and arts education program here at Steele Street School.
We would like to thank the Leppert Family and the Education Foundation of Niagara for their continued support.” – Principal Mark Piazza, Steele Street Public School
